France National Football Team

France National Football Team
In 2010, Michel Platini (head of UEFA at the time), announced the news to the French people and the world - France is to host European League in 2016! The nation was ecstatic, after all, France did not host an important football contest since the World Cup in 1998, where the French team also won the title. Since 2010, it seems that the excitement is only rising. Because France is hosting the tournament, the French team, that is ranked 22nd in the world, are automatically qualified to play in the finals - and maybe relive the glory days of Euro 2010.

The French National Football team had its pick between 1998-2000, when it won both the World Cup and the Euro Cup. However, over the years the team had some good periods as well, winning the European Championship (1984), and two Confederate Cups. After a weak start at the 60's-70's, the team rose again in the 80's, especially thanks to Michel Platini, who is considered one of the best football of all times, and who joined the team in the beginning of the decade. With Platini, the French team came in forth in the 1982 World Cup, and won the European Championship in 1984. After Platini retired from the team in 1988, the team failed to reach the same achievements again, until 1996, when Zinedine Zidane joined.

With Zidane, the French team won the World Cup in 1998, the Euro's in 2010, and the Confederate Cup as well. The golden days were over when Zidane was sent off in the team's match against Italy at 2006 FIFA World Cup finals, after head-butting Marco Materazzi in the chest. Since then, the team had tried to relive the golden years, but without much success.
Over the years, many great football players played in the French red, white and blue uniforms: Thierry Henry, Jean-Pierre Papin, David Trezegut, Hugo Lloris, Lilian Thuram and Didier Deschamps, who is now the manager of the team and the one who leads it in the Euro 2016.
