Euro 2016

Euro 2016
Euro 2016  is a one-month tournament that ends the Europa League. The championship is held from 10 June until 10 July, and is the most exciting and popular tournament after the Champions League. This is the 15th edition of the tournament, which is held every four years since 1960. In 2016, for the first time in history, 24 teams will participate in the tournament instead of 16 teams, making it tougher, but much more interesting.

After beating Turkey and Italy in a bidding process, France will host the championship for the third time, after hosting the tournament in 1960 and 1984. In 1984, the French team won the championship at home, making this year very interesting for it - will it be the second time the team wins at its home country? We will have to wait and see. Be it the French team or any other, the winner of Euro 2016 will compete in 2017 FIFA Confederation Cup, hosted by Russia, which also hosts the World Cup in 2018.

Out of 53 teams that competed for a chance to join Euro 2016, 24 got in (including France, which hosts the championship and therefore is automatically qualified). Among the teams are Germany - the world champions; Spain - the European champions; Russia, Turkey, Austria and Switzerland - all of which missed Euro 2012; Hungary - for the first time in 44 years; Belgium - for the first time after 16 years; Albania, Iceland, Northern Ireland, Slovakia and Wales - for the first time ever. Other teams that compete in Euro 2016 are England, Portugal, Italy, Croatia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Sweden, Poland, Romania, and the Republic of Ireland. Perhaps you had notice some teams that are missing. Indeed, Greece, winner of Euro 2004, 1988 winners, the Netherlands, and 1992 winners, Denmark - have all missed their chance of this year's Championship.

The teams will play in 10 venues around France: Stade de France, Stade Velodrome, Parc Olymique Lyon, Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Parc des Princes, Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux, Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, Allianz Riviera, Stade Bollaert-Delelis, and Stadium Municipal.
