Olympic Games Beach Volleyball

Olympic Games Beach Volleyball
The greatest thing about the 2016 Olympics being in Rio, Brazil - is the fabulous beaches Brazil is known for. And what is greater than playing volleyball at the beach, and moreover, as an Olympic Sport? Siting on the amazing beaches of Rio and watching the athletes from all over the world participate in a tournament which the Summer Olympics has indorsed since 1996 - is a dream come true to some. Especially in Brazil, the country that has not missed one gold or silver medal in every women's or men's tournament since 1996.

However, let us begin at the beginning. In 1992, beach volleyball was only a demonstration sport, played on the quiet beaches of Barcelona. Two pairs from the USA won the games then, and will continue to do so three more times with the men's tournament, and three more with the women's. Three, apparently, is a lucky number.
In 1996, the sport was accepted as a part of the Summer Olympic, with 24 teams - each contains two participants - are competing against each other. One of them is always the hosting country, unless, of course, it has no team. Each country can send up to two teams to the Games. This fact can lead to interesting situations like in 1996, where the Brazilian women's team played against each other, or in 2012, when the same thing happened with the American teams.

From 1996, ten tournaments had been played (but the count is not done). Thirty medals have been won. Brazil had won eleven, with two gold medals, six silver and three bronze. Following them is the USA, with nine medals: six gold, two silver and one bronze. In a tie of three medals only each are Switzerland (surprising indeed since they have no beach), Latvia and Canada.
